Good To Know

The Teleferico do Funchal is the cable car system that connects the old town of Funchal to Monte. Before the cable car, there was once a cog railway connecting those two parts. The idea was to go up with the cable car and sled down with the famous sled rides. However, due to a terrible accident involving many deaths, it was abandoned. Many years later the cable car was installed by the Austrian cable car company Doppelmaier. instead.

It became a very popular tourist attraction because it gives you amazing views of Funchal and beyond. The only advice we can give you though is to go to the cable car when there are no cruise ships in the harbor. Otherwise, the waiting line is just way too long. If you like to save some time buy the tickets online here.

Right next to the Teleferico is the famous park "Park Almirante Reis" where you can enjoy a variety ofactivities.
