Taberna da Poncha

Taberna da Poncha. One of the most famous Poncha Bars in Madeira Island. It is nested in the Valley of Ribeira Brava towards Encumeada Pass and is very easy to find. And that is a good thing because this means it is also easy to get back home after you had your fair share of Poncha there. 

With each Poncha you will get a cup full of peanuts and now comes the best part. You can just pop them open and throw the skin to the floor. Go there late in the evening on a Saturday and you will see how many of these skins are scattered all over the place. It's just a testimonial of how good the Poncha there really is. 

So far we only gave one time a solid 7 out of 7 Ponchas. It belonged to Valerios Poncha Place in Santo de Serra. But now there are two of them sharing the number one spot. And it is well deserved. This place has been a true family business for many generations and here you can see how much wealth you can produce with just selling poncha. 

Oh, and aks for the infamous "Poncha Preta". Granted we also never heard of it but a suspicious-looking guy in a side street told us about it so we had to see if the myth was true. And it sure is! We will not say too much for now. It has its own taste but we leave that up to you for once.
