In 2023, a lovely promenade was built along the beach, perfect for a relaxing walk that could easily take over an hour. You can start by walking through a cool tunnel carved into the cliffs and finish in Câmara de Lobos, the next town over. The route takes you across beach bridges and past dramatic cliffs—it’s a walk you’ll want to capture on camera!

What makes Praia Formosa extra special? The magical sunsets and the view of Cabo Girão, one of Europe’s highest cliffs. Along the beach, you’ll find plenty of restaurants with big terraces where you can enjoy fresh seafood or sip on some homemade Poncha (a local cocktail) while soaking up the sun in your bikini.

During summer, there are lifeguards on duty to keep things safe. Plus, the beach has everything you need for a great day out: parking, changing rooms, bathrooms, a public water fountain, a first-aid post, a kids’ playground, and even a football pitch!
