Good To Know
Tucked away like your favorite chocolate bar in the back of the fridge, Ponta do Lazareto is the underrated superstar of Funchal Bay views. This little gem on Madeira’s south coast serves up golden hour like it's happy hour — complete with terracotta rooftops, gentle waves, and a sky that’s clearly been filtered by nature itself.
But what’s with the name “Lazareto”? Well, turns out it likely comes from a lazaret, which was a quarantine station back in the day. Romantic? No. Useful? Absolutely — especially if you're a 17th-century sailor with scurvy. Today though, there’s zero quarantine, just pure scenic freedom and a sunset that’s worth writing a postcard about (or at least 3 Insta stories).
Come for the history, stay for the view, and don’t forget to whisper sweet nothings to the Atlantic. It’s that kind of place.
