Good To Know
Infinity pools are nice. But they don't usually come with volcanic lava, Atlantic waves and Europe's highest sea cliff in the background.
Welcome to Doca do Cavacas, one of Madeira's hidden gems and probably one of the coolest places to cool off on the island. Instead of swimming in a man-made pool, you'll be floating in crystal-clear volcanic pools carved naturally into the lava rock by thousands of years of Atlantic waves. Mother Nature really outdid herself here.
Located between the Lido and Praia Formosa, this small bathing complex offers direct access to the ocean, sunbathing platforms and some of the best coastal views on Madeira. To your left lies the dramatic coastline of Praia Formosa. Straight ahead is the endless Atlantic. And to your right rises the mighty Cabo Girão, Europe's highest sea cliff.
Need a break from swimming? There are changing rooms, showers, toilets and even a café right on site, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon here.
Whether you're chasing the perfect Instagram photo, looking for a peaceful swim, or simply want to experience one of Madeira's most unique swimming spots, Doca do Cavacas proves that sometimes the best pools aren't built—they're discovered.
