Who says a proper Madeira adventure needs hiking boots, three litres of water and an alarm clock at 5 AM?

Welcome to the Banana Path in Madalena do Mar, where the mountains take a break and the bananas steal the show.

Hidden among the banana plantations of this charming coastal village, this wonderfully quirky little walk takes you straight into Madeira's tropical side. One moment you're walking through a quiet village, and the next you're surrounded by enormous banana leaves, narrow pathways and more bananas than you could possibly eat in a lifetime.

And the best part? You can enjoy a short section in around 15 minutes. That's probably less time than it takes to decide where to have lunch.

The path winds between working banana plantations, where you can see how Madeira's famous little bananas actually grow. Forget supermarket shelves — this is the real deal, complete with irrigation channels, lush greenery and the occasional glimpse of the surrounding mountains.

It's not a dramatic mountain expedition. There are no spectacular summits to conquer, no heroic hiking stories to tell and absolutely no need to pretend you're training for Mount Everest.

Instead, it's simply a fun, slightly unusual and surprisingly charming little adventure that makes you smile.

And sometimes, that's exactly what a holiday needs.
