Elvis Shrine
Forget Area 51. Elvis is alive, well, and chilling in rural Madeira next to some flower pots and lava rocks. Long live the King… of randomness!

Good To Know
The Mystery of the José Meigalao Museum: Where Elvis Lives, Plants Grow, and Time Forgot
Hidden deep in the twisty roads of Madeira—somewhere between a banana plantation and a “was this a UFO landing pad?”—you’ll stumble upon the shrine to beat all shrines: the Museu José Meigalao, a psychedelic outdoor museum that casually features... Elvis Presley.
Yes, that Elvis. Black-and-white glory shots, military chic, sultry headshots, and enough 1950s charisma to make your grandma blush. If you're wondering what he's doing here, the answer is obvious: he faked his death and retired to Madeira to grow succulents and watch levadas.
This place is wild. There's lava stone art, hand-painted mugs, plant pots made of tires, religious figures vibing next to vintage pin-ups, and a carved wall featuring everything from angels to what suspiciously looks like CR7. (Cristiano, is that you in the rock face?!)
The whole vibe screams, “I came here for a cultural moment and left with a conspiracy theory and some ceramic mug envy.”
Don’t expect a ticket booth or gift shop—this is 100% DIY madness. Just pull over when your GPS gives up, and let the spirit of Elvis guide you.
